If you have ambitions to sail to the Channel Islands, this 7-day experience is definitely for you.

Arrive at King Point Marina the evening before you set sail to the Channel Islands. Your skipper will introduce you to your modern, high-quality, 40′ yacht. With your own double cabin, cosy bedding and onboard heating, your overnight accommodation will provide a comfortable living space for the week.  After meeting your fellow crew-mates and enjoying a good night’s sleep onboard the yacht, you will set sail for your first destination….

…and that is where the plan ends!

How your week continues depends on the wind, the tide, and how far you would like to go. There are plenty of destinations available to explore en route during your sail to the Channel Islands. On your way, you may choose to call into the historical, naval town of Dartmouth before heading off across the Channel to Alderney – an unspoilt and peaceful island which has so far managed to escape mainstream tourism. Next stop, Saint Peter Port, Guernsey, which offers a huge choice of restaurants with international flavour and lively pubs so you can soak up the atmosphere. Perhaps you would prefer to head to Sark, a unique island with no cars – only tractors, bicycles, horses and carriages to travel around the island. Or peaceful Herm, with unspoilt beaches and no crowds. After a longer sail back across the Channel, you may opt to moor in Salcombe for your final evening before returning to Plymouth by 4 pm on your final sailing day, leaving you plenty of time to catch your train home.

For those who have already undertaken a sail to the Channel Islands, you will be aware of the challenges that may be presented. Great care should be taken with tidal stream calculations, particularly when approaching Alderney to avoid being swept past the harbour entrance. However, with beautiful anchorages such as St Brelade on the south-west corner of Jersey (with a lovely beach, pine tree backdrop and interesting rock formations), La Grande Greve to the west of Sark (a stunning and popular anchorage with good protection with the right wind direction) and St Peter Port in Guernsey (with its picturesque seafront marina) the challenge is definitely worth the rewards of sailing there.

When you choose to undertake a longer sail to the Channel Islands, flexibility is the key. It is important to remember that your skipper will make every effort to reach this destination, however, their decision about whether it is attainable is final. Your safety and comfort is their number one priority, therefore they have the right to amend your sail to the Channel Islands to a west-country cruise.

Due to the longer sailing passages required for this trip, some previous sailing experience is required to undertake this trip. As always, our fully-qualified and experienced skipper will encourage you to take part in as much (or as little!) helming and yacht management as you choose.

Included: 7-nights accommodation onboard the yacht, breakfast and light lunches taken aboard the yacht, hot and cold drinks, bedding, mooring fees, fuel, skipper fees.

Time: 7 sailing days (shown on the calendar). Meet at 18:00 the evening before you sail.
