If you are looking to complete your RYA Day Skipper Shorebased, Devon Sailing Experiences can offer you a high-quality and comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers.

This intensive, 5-day training course operates close to our base location, King Point Marina, a small and modern marina with fabulous facilities. It is conveniently located just 5-minutes away from Plymouth mainline train station by taxi.

Typical student to instructor ratio for this course is 8:1.

Additional information

Pre-course experience and assumed knowledge

Some practical sailing experience is desirable, but not essential.
Minimum duration

5 days (40 hours) including exam.
Minimum age

None.
Under 18s MUST be accompanied by parent/guardian.
Course content

The basics of seamanship; essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage; chartwork including use of electronic charts; position fixing; plotting a course to steer; weather forecasting and meteorology; tides; collision regulations; construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat; emergency and safety procedures including distress calls,use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts.
